Family Health Services, Inc. history:
Family Health Services was founded in 1973 to ensure low-income women had access medical examinations, contraceptive counseling, contraceptives, and other family planning services. Soon after the organization expanded to offer WIC services. The WIC program provides nutrition education and healthy foods to Women, Infants, and Children through a United States Department of Agriculture grant. In 2000, our focus shifted from primarily serving women and young children to providing public health services to all residents of Southeast Nebraska.
Today, Family Health Services is a non-profit healthcare organization that serves people in nine southeast Nebraska counties.
- Our caring staff deliver WIC services to over 1,000 individuals every month. Clinic locations include Auburn, Beatrice, Fairbury, Falls City, Hebron, Nebraska City, Plattsmouth, Table Rock, and Tecumseh.
- Our comprehensive medical providers serve over 1,500 patients every year. Clinic locations include Beatrice, Crete, Lincoln, Peru, and Tecumseh. Patients can get reproductive healthcare on an income-based sliding fee basis. More than half of our 1,500 patients each year are uninsured or underinsured which qualifies them for free or reduced-price services. The clinic also accepts most private insurance, Medicaid, and Every Woman Matters. We believe all our neighbors should have access to reproductive and sexual healthcare regardless of ability to pay.
- Services include preventative health exams, cervical cancer screening (PAP test), breast cancer screening, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, all contraceptive methods (including emergency contraception), pregnancy testing, and colposcopy procedures.
- Another critical part of our programming is our outreach and sexual health education reaching 3,000 individuals every year. We partner with lots of other organizations to provide informative reproductive and sexual health programs in a professional and non-judgmental way. Family planning promotes the well-being of families and responsible behavior, prevents unintended pregnancies through education and contraceptive services, and allows for planning and timing of pregnancies.
